Sel Roti

Sel Roti is a one of the famous Nepalese food specially made at Dashian and Tihar which is famous festival celebrated in Nepal. Dashain and Tihar is the biggest festival of Hindu religion. Sel Roti is a special dishes made at this festival. This festival is celebrated for 15 days in Nepal.And Sel Roti are served as a snack too with some side dishes such as aloo ko achar made up of potato,or any other extra achar.

Description: 

Sel Roti is made up of rice flour during Nepalese Festival so called Tihar(Deepawali). It's texture is crispy and golden in color. A very thick batter is made out of right portion of rice flour with mixed amount of sugar, some water and into a boiling hot pan of oil, ghee is poured to make sel. Here, right proportion of right ingredients and temperature of the pan in which frying oil is poured plays a veryimportant role on the outcome of the sel roti.So make sure the oil is very hot if you prefer grainy texture.  Ingredients

2 cups rice flour
1 cup plain flour
1 cup rice soaked overnight
5 tablespoons sugar (add more if you like sweet)
2 cups vegetable oil for deep frying
½ cup ghee (clarified butter)

Procedures



 

 

 

 

1. Heat a cup of water and chaku in pan at a medium heat

    When chaku melts, add sesame          powder, coconut powder and cardamom powder and stir it gently.

2. Add about a spoon full of rice flour and stir it gentlyWhen the paste is good (not too thick or too thin) pour it into a bowl



3.Make the dough for yomari using rice flour and Luke warm water


4.Make a soft dough (dough should be soft because if the dough is hard the yomari will break)


5.When the dough is ready cover it with soft piece of cloth and leave it for about half an hour.

 

After half an hour

 

6.Grease your palm with cooking oil so that the dough will not stick to your hand


7.Take a small piece of dough and make it first into round then into long yomari shape


8.Make as thin as you can because more thin your wrap is more tasty yomari becomes


9.Add two teaspoon of chhaku into the wrap and slowly close the yomori top.


10.You should keep on roiling the yomari while closing the top.


11.Heat the water in the steamer.


12.When water boils, put yomari in steamer and let it steam for about 10 minutes.


Now, Yomari is ready to Serve....
